According to SAR, it is now confirmed that Sony will announce the a9 III and FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS lens on November 7th.
The a9 III is expected to be the successor to Sony’s sports-oriented a9 II model. According to leaks, the a9 III will have a newly developed 33MP or 44MP back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor capable of shooting at an incredible 30fps with AE/AF tracking. This new sensor technology paired with the upgraded BIONZ XR processor will enable lightning-fast shooting speeds with accurate focus tracking of fast-moving subjects.
The autofocus system on the a9 III is rumored to be next-generation with wider coverage and enhanced subject recognition algorithms for reliable tracking. Sony is touting this as the world’s fastest AF system. Other improvements include 5.5 stops of image stabilization, deeper buffer depth, and 14-bit RAW recording for maximum dynamic range.
Joining the a9 III will be the FE 300mm f/2.8 GM OSS – a large aperture super telephoto prime lens designed for sports, wildlife and portrait photographers. The lens will feature a sophisticated auto focusing system with Direct Drive SSM, advanced coatings to reduce flaring and ghosting, and a customizable focus hold button. At under 3kg, it will be lighter than comparable 300mm lenses.
With these major announcements planned for November 7th, Sony is demonstrating their commitment to pros and serious hobbyists. The new a9 III and 300mm f/2.8 GM will provide photographers with uncompromising image quality and performance for capturing split-second action shots. Stay tuned for the official launch !
